The following article was published in the Yacht Digest Magazine in January 2009. The article originally appeared in Italian but below you will find an english translation.
In 2002 it was a young promise, today it is a wonderful confirmation. Cantiere Aghemio in Stresa, on the western banks of lago Maggiore, founded by 39 year old Marco Aghemio, is full of work. In the yards 700sq meters there is almost no more space to accept new wooden boats to undergo restoration. Among the most advanced, is the steam boat "Ancilla" - the next to be delivered. On this boat, originally constructed by Cantiere Taroni in 1922, Aghemio has reconstructed the sides in double layered mahogany, the ribs, the hull and the cabin. Next spring delivery will take place on "Appia del Mare", a small runabout by San Marco, and Serena, the Riva ariston N° 556 from 1963, motorized by a Chris Craft 283 engine. Work carried out includes the decking, ribs and complete re-varnishing. Long-term restoration, nearly two years of work, for Grace, Riva Ariston N°421 from 1962, today owned by an american. Among the work pre-visted , the reconstruction of the sides in triple layered mahogany, supplied by Magnino Legnami, the hull, ribs, the decking in filleted maple, the dashboard and seating. The Chrysler Sea V M80 engine will also be completely refurbished. Almost the same work will be carried out on Riva Ariston N°579 "Magda" from 1964. In this case the engine mounted is a Chris Craft 283. Shorter time frames for Riva Florida N° 606 "Zep" from 1963, on which a new hull will be done and it will be completely re-varnished, and for Riva Super Florida N° 614 "Ivana" from 1962. The interventions on both should be cuncluded in the second half of 2009. Aside so many motor boats we couldn't leave out the two interventions on sailboats. The first is on a 12ft Dinghy, number 26, constructed at the end of the 1940's by cantiere Leopoldo Colombo from Lake Como and today is the property of the president of the Riva Historical Society Piero Maria Gibellini. The second involves the reconstruction of the mast head and rudder of Dragone "Nathaly". A lot of work for Marco Aghemio, not counting that in the months to come, restoration will start on Riva Ariston N°41, Riva Junior N°80, and Riva Super Florida N°227 and N°394.
