Riva Junior N° 76 "Stella"

Stella is a beautiful 1966 Riva Junior N° 76. She was restored by Marco during the winter of 2005/2006 and now lives on Lake Orta during the summer but every winter comes back to our yard for routine maintenance and winter storage.

When "Stella" was originally restored, Marco, together with her new owner, decided to do something a bit different... Instead of keeping the sides white, the sides where completely stripped of their varnish and mahogany taps inserted creating beautiful mahogany sides.

UN RIVA JUNIOR PARTICOLARE

"A Milano Classic Motors, manifestazione consolidata dedicata ai veicoli storici che si svolge a Busto Arsizio (Va) nei padiglioni di Malpensa Fiere, erano esposte imbarcazioni d'epoca in uno spazio curato dall'associazione Il legno sull'acqua.

Ha fatto la sua comparsa uno speciale Riva Junior restaurato da Marco Aghemio di Stresa, con una livrea inconsueta e di grande eleganza. questo motoscafo, nato da un'idea di Carlo Riva, e dalla matita dell'architetto Barilani, era stato concepito come barca sportiva, da sci nautico e dedicata ai più giovani; veniva proposto con le fiancate verniciate in bianco opaco, mentre rimaneva una buona parte di legno a vista sulla coperta. D'accordo con il suo armatore, Aghemio ha pensato di rivisitare lo Junior; ha portato a legno lo scafo , e si è reso conto che il legname utilizzato dal cantiere, e originariamente coperto dalla pittura bianca, era di ottima qualità e quindi ben si prestava a essere lasciato a vista. Ne è nato così un motoscafo particolare con le linee sportive dello Junior ma con una notevole eleganza degna dei più pregiati runabout del Cantiere Riva di Sarnico."

"At Milan Classic Motors, an exhibition dedicated to classic vehicles that takes place at Malpensa Fiera in Busto Arsizio, there where some classic motorboats displayed in the space dedicated to the association Il Legno sull'Acqua.

Making it's appearance was a special Riva Junior, restored by Marco Aghemio of Stresa, with her unusual livery and grand elegance. This motorboat, born from an idea by Carlo Riva and the pencil of the architect Barilani, it was conceived as a sporting boat for waterskiing and dedicated to the younger generation; it was proposed with the sides painted an opaque white while a good part of wood was still visible on the decking. In agreement with the owner, Aghemio decided to revise the Junior; he removed all the paint bringing out the wood and realized that the wood originally used by the yard and covered with white paint was in optimal condition and therefor decided to leave it to be seen. Thus a motorboat was born with the sporting lines of a Junior and a notable elegance reserved by the more renowned runabouts of Cantiere Riva of Sarnico."

RADUNO ALLA NAUTICA LAVAZZA

"L'evento organizzato dal Riva Club Lago Maggiore, con la collaborazione della Riva Society Italia, ha visto 16 Riva radunarsi a Brebbia, dal 23 al 25 Giugno, alla Nautica Lavazza. Qui sono convenuti soci da varie parti d'Europa a rappresentare oltre all'Italia, la Svizzera, la Germania, l'Inghilterra, il Belgio e l'Olanda, tutti accolti con simpatia ed ospitalità dalla famiglia Lavazza . Una piacevole sorpresa è stata la partecipazione, sabato lungo il tragitto, sul Tritone #159 "Mipi" del 1961, di Chicco Vidoli, tornato in pieno forma dopo il suo paurosa incidente durante un collaudo, per una rottura della trasmissione. Da segnalare, inoltre, la new entry dello Junior N° 76 "Stella", recente restauro interpretativo di Marco Aghemio, grande appassionato , che infischiandosene dell'originalità ha privilegiato l'estetica , da sempre elemento qualificante dei Riva. Lo Junior viene considerata un Riva di serie cadetta, per le sue fiancate dipinto di bianco mat, volute così per esigenze di contenimento dei costi di produzione e di manutenzione. Destinato ai cultori dello sci nautico, doveva essere una barca che non doveva far soffrire troppo il portafoglio dell'armatore se sbatteva contro i pontili. Cessata la funzione per cui nacque, Aghemio ha ritenuto che la nuova funzione di barca storica, da conservare e da esibire, giustificasse una livrea più importante, con le fiancate interamente a vernice per esaltarne la bellezza dei legni. Uno Junior che è passato dalla categoria "utility" a quella più blasonata degli altri Riva. Una scelta coraggiosa, non condivisa dai puristi dell'originalità, ma al passo con l'evoluzione dell'uso e, per me, accettabile in quanto non distruttiva."

MEETING AT THE NAUTICA LAVAZZA

"For the event organized by Riva Club Lago Maggiore, with the collaboration of Riva society Italia, 16 Riva's met at Brebbia, from 23 to 25 June, at Nautica Lavazza. Members arrived from various European countries, representing Switzerland, Germany, England, Belgium, Holland and Italy, all heartily welcomed by the Lavazzza family. A pleasant surprise was the participation, on Tritone # 159 "Mipi" from 1961, of Chicco Vidoli, strong and healthy again, after the scary accident during the testing of a racing boat, due to a break in the transmission shaft. A mention is deserved for the Junior # 76 "Stella", a recent interpretive restoration by Marco Aghemio, a passionate restorer who decided to disregard originality in favour of aesthetics , ever a qualifying element in the Riva's. The Junior is usually thought to be a "less beautiful" Riva for its sides painted a matt white, a choice made at the time to lower production and maintenance costs. A boat made for waterskiing, it should not affect the owners wallet too much if it hits against pontoons. As the purpose for which it was built has ended, Marco thought that its new role as historical bat to be preserved and exhibited justified a more important livery. With the sides completely varnished to show the beauty of the wood the Junior is no more a "utility" boat. A brave decision, which the purists of originality do not share, but in harmony with the change of use and, in my opinion, acceptable as it is not destructive."
